Flutes & Frets are a unique ensemble passionate about showcasing the versatility of combining flute and historic plucked instruments. They were chosen “IYAP Selected Promising Ensemble 2022” for the International Young Artist Presentation. This led to being selected for a European Festival Fund for Emerging Artists (EFFEA) award organised by the European Festival Association in order to be mentored by Peter Van Heyghen and perform at festivals in Antwerp, Krakow and York which will take place in the autumn of 2023. They were awarded first prize at the 2021 La Follia Nuova International Chamber Music Competition; the “22nd LAMS Matera Award”; and the 1st Prix à l’unanimité of the International Music Competition (IMC). In 2022, they were also finalists in the Royal Overseas League Competition Mixed Ensembles Category and in 2023. They are currently part of the Brighton Early Music Festival (BREMF) Live. One of the main objectives of the duo is to make known to diverse audiences the wide possibilities offered by this combination of instruments and also the variety of sounds that composers of all eras would have wanted their audiences to hear. To do this, they produce a special sonic palette by exploring historically informed practice and modern mainstream performance.
